Abstract:   (984 Views)
Cancer patients experience high physical, psychological, economic, and family stress, which in most cases leads to a loss of hope and a feeling of despair, and as a result, their mental and physical health deteriorates. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of group positive psychotherapy and group psychodrama on the hope of women with breast cancer in order to find useful ways to increase hope in these patients. This was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test, follow-up with control group design. The study population included all women between the age of 25 to 45 years with breast cancer who referred to Pars Royal Clinic in Tehran, from among which 45 people were selected by purposive sampling method. These individuals were placed in three groups of psychodrama, positive psychotherapy and control group (15 people in each group). Participants answered Simpson's Adult Hope Scale (1999)in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. The results of repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance test showed that the scores of the positive therapeutic group and the pre-post-test psychotherapy group increased significantly and returned at the follow-up stage with a gentle slope (P<0.01, F24,64=6.55). According to the research findings, positive group psychotherapy and psychodrama are both useful treatments to increase hope in women with breast cancer, but positive group psychotherapy treatment is a more effective treatment in this population.
